Genasi bears a quite unusual look than that of other Dungeons & Dragons races. They have a human-like body structure, but their ferocious glances and looks will make you curious to know more about their details. Genasi are the descendants of mortals and genies. They possess all the powers of Elemental planes, e.g., the air, fire, water, earth, positive, and negative energy. They inherit both their mortal and genie heritage features, like the oddly colored skin of the genies and the mortals’ pointy ears or short-statured. But they rarely have a place to call home truly.
Genasi Subraces & Their Proficiencies:
As Genasi has the powers of elemental planes, others recognize them according to the four fundamental elements they possess. Therefore the most common Genasi are Fire Genasi, Air Genasy. Para-Genasis are those who declare a bloodline combining two elements. Thus the Dust Para-Genasi, Ice Para-Genasi, Magma Para-Genasi, Ooze Para-Genasi, exist. But their existence is rare.
While playing as an Air Genasi, you need to remember that you are Djinn’s descendent. You have light blue skin, hair, and eyes. A gentle and steady breeze follows you, tousles your hair, and stirrer your clothing. You speak with breathy voices, signified by a low echo. Your moods are like the weather, shift from calm to the wild without warning, though these storms don’t last long.
You can hold the breath continually while you’re not hurt. You know the Breeze tricks. Thus, after reaching the 3rd level, you can spread the Levitate spell requiring no substantial components
While playing as a Fire Genasi, you know that you are the descendant of Efreet’s subtle mood and sharp mind. Nearly all Fire Genasi are as hot as if burning inside, which turns them to have a flaming red, coal-black, or ash-gray skin color.
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you, and everything you see in the dark appears in the color of red. You are fire-resistant. You know all the Flame tricks. After reaching the 3rd level, you can spread the Burning Hands spell.
While playing as an Earth Genasi, keep in mind that you are the descendant of cruel and greedy Dao. That doesn’t necessarily make you evil. You have some control over the earth, superior strength, and substantial power. You take your time before making a decision rather than go for an impulsive choice.
You can pass over rough terrain made of earth or stone. You know the Mold Earth cantrip. In the 3rd level, you can spread the Pass without Trace spell, and after that, you need a long rest to regain the ability.
While playing as a Water Genasi, remember that the passing waves, the splash of sea foam on the wind, the ocean depths are your strength. You have blue or green skin, overly large eyes. Your voice reminds others of whale songs or trickling streams. You are independent and wander freely.
You are acid-resistant, can breathe in air and water, and have a swimming speed of 30 feet. You know the Shape Water tricks. In the 3rd level, you can spread the Create or Destroy Water spell regain the ability to cast after taking a long rest.
Names of Genasi:
Genie parents consider their Genasi children as a mistake. Thus, Genasis usually take a name relating to their mortal parent’s culture. And a Genasi born of a genie and an elf often receives an elvish name. Maximum of them pick a name later in life that follows their elemental heritage names like ‘Jet,’ ‘Monsoon,’ ‘Flow,’ ‘Pond,’ Oxygen, etc. These names do not vary according to their gender.
